This 6-week Photography for Beginners course is designed for anyone who wants to move beyond
automatic settings and start taking creative control of their camera. Through a combination of clear
instruction, hands-on practice, and supportive group critique, students will learn the essential
technical and artistic foundations of photography.
Participants will explore how cameras work, master the exposure triangle, improve focus and
composition, and learn to work with natural and artificial light. The course also introduces basic
photo editing and encourages students to develop their own visual style through guided assignments
No prior photography experience is required. By the end of the course, students will feel confident
using their camera, creating well-composed images, and continuing their photographic journey
independently.
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
• Confidently operate their camera in manual or semi-manual modes
• Control exposure, focus, and composition
• Use light creatively
• Understanding Aperture , ISO, and shutters speed
• Understand different photographic genres
You don't need any previous knowledge to join this course; it's for complete beginners or anyone needing a technical refresher.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be happy using numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
A mixture of talks, demonstrations, group and individual practical exercises, discussions and project work, involving some individual tutoring. You will receive and be invited to contribute to positive critical feedback on your own and each other's photographs. To get the most from this course, you should take time to practice between lessons.
